Eyre Peninsula stretches from the tip of Spencer Gulf to the edge of the Great Australian Bight. Known for its pristine coastline, national parks and marine parks it offers lots for everyone. As we have explored this region previously, we will be visiting places that we have not yet explored on our treck to WA.

Point Lowly is 33klm north of Whyalla and offers a great low cost camp for a night or two. Swimming and fishing all within walking distance. If you don't like wind, then this isn't the place for you.

Point Lowly Lighthouse was constructed in 1883 to guide ships safely through Spencer Gulf en route to Port Pirie and Port Augusta

Port Bonython process crude oils and natural gas and is managed by Santos.

Whyalla is a main town for eastern Eyre Peninsula and the main industry is mining and steel production.

Cleve- as we have been down the coast previously ,thought we would head inland. Over nighted at a free camp opposite the hotel. Cleve is situated amongst cereal crops and would have to be one of the friendliest, cleanest towns we have come across. Even the children in the streets say hello to you. It is obvious that the town people take pride as all the buildings are immaculate inside and out. The Foodland would have to be one of the best we have experienced. Highly recommend a stay here.

Elliston-wind has been unbearable so decided to pull into Elliston Tourist Park for a few nights. Wow, what a lovely little town with friendly locals. Stunning rugged coastline and beautiful white sandy beaches. Has a long jetty for fishing off and a Cliff Top scenic drive with sculptures along the way. Some fantastic cliff edge walking tracks as well.

Walkers Rock- 13klm west of Elliston is a hidden gem. White sandy beach with snorkelling opportunities in crystal clear waters. Great camp ground, toilet and cold shower. Very safe swimming beach. Just perfect (except for the wind) to spend a few days.

As we travelled west, we called into a few coastal towns like Venus Bay, Haslam & Smoky Bay. Stopping off at Ceduna to fill up with fuel and stock up on that all important alcoholic beverages for the trip across the Nullarbor. The day was unbearable at 38 degrees (thank goodness for a/c in cars).

Penong a small township of 150 people and easy drive to Cactus Beach the very popular surfing beach. We decided to free camp behind the hotel for the night and it was unbearable in the heat, but there was a breeze.

Penong Hotel was built in 1910. In the early days the beer was brought to the west coast by ship to Denial Bay then trucked to Penong.

Penong is known for its windmills. The community won an award for the display

Nullarbor

Big drive today 5.5hrs from Penong to Border Village and another 38 degrees day. Still had plenty of vegies so decided to stay at the Border Village C/Pk, needed that air conditioning so we could cook up all the vegies before crossing the WA border. The Great Australian Bight has some spectacular cliffs.

Well that brings us to the end of Eyre Peninsula and South Australia. Here we come Western Australia.
