Once again we have explored WA extensively on our previous trip so will be visiting places this time we haven't been.
I must say the drive from Ceduna through to Norseman is long and boring (other than the cliffs along the Nullarbor).
Border Village- Spent the night here before crossing the SA/WA border mainly to do a cook up of all our vegies and to have air conditioning after a long hot drive across the Nullarbor. Great spot for an over nighter , dusty but has amenities but no water to fill tanks.
Norseman- wasn't on the plan to stop at but after 11hr long hot drive we decided to pull into the caravan park . It was 43 degrees in the caravan and that's with the air conditioning running. Good chance to catch up on washing-only took 30mins to dry. Nice little park.
Caravan Parks in Esperance are really expensive this time of year and booked out, so free camped 25k's north of Esperance at Gibson Soak Hotel. Can stay here for maximum of 3 nights. Need to be self contained. Great little spot on the pubs land and a great pub at that. The owner is an AC/DC collector and there is corner dedicated to the group. Very friendly staff and locals and an easy drive into Esperance.
Gibson Soak Hotel
Our main reason for going to Esperance was to go and stay out at Lucky Bay, but that wasn't going to happen as the weather was cold, rainy and miserable. We had visited Lucky Bay on last trip just didn't get to stay out there.
A place that we wanted to go was Bremer Bay- situated between Esperance and Albany and after such a long treck across decided to splurge and stay at the Bremer Bay Caravan Park. Booked in for 8 nights but ended up staying 12 and only 500m from a stunning beach that you can also drive on. This is a very popular place for WA people to holiday and always very busy. It is also very unique as it has the Bremer Canyon off the coast and is the summer feeding grounds for the Dinosaurs of the Deep and the only place in the Southern Hemisphere for the largest congregation of the "Orcas".
This place is a little gem and a must visit.
Can also drive on the beach
Has a fresh water estuary with tons of birdlife-pelicans & black swans.
The Point Henry Peninsula has so many lovely bays with crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and fishing.
Native Dog beach
Tooreburrup Hill lookout gives you a 360degree view over the region.
The "Wellstead" family is well known in this area and have a great historic museum featuring many heirlooms, collectables, coaches/wagons etc. Also a great little café attached. One of the cleanest and well organised museums we have visited and @$6pp well worth it.
Wellstead family property
On my list of things to do was a tour to see the "Orcas" and did this with whalewatchwesternaustralia.com . Magnificent 8 hrs on the water seeing Pilot Whales, Dolphins, Birds, Albatross, Sunfish and Orca's. I am using their pictures that were taken on the day, just a bit better than mine.
Did you know that Orca males measure 6-8 metres in length and weigh in excess of 6 tons. Females are smaller 5-7 metres and 3-4 tons.
We saw 3 large Albatross one with a 3metre wing spread, just beautiful.
Sunfish are very rare but we were lucky to see 2. Very ugly and have a spotted fin.
Pilot Whale we saw a large pod of these amazing mammals.
Well time has come to move on. Just loved Bremer Bay.
